Maa Chandraghanta is worshipped on the third day of Shardiya Navratri. She is one of the nine forms of Maa Durga and is the sovereign of the planet Shukra. The goddess rides the tigress and has ten arms. She also holds a lotus flower, arrow, dhanush, and japa mala in her four right hands and keeps the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra. She bears trishul, gada, sword, and a kamandal in four left hands and holds her fifth left hand in Varada Mudra.

As believed by Drik Panchang, she was the wedded avatar of Maa Parvati. After marrying Lord Shiva, Maa Chandraghanta started keeping half-moon or Chandra on her forehead. Hence, she was named as Maa Chandraghanta. She is the peace form of Maa Parvati.

According to the myths, every form of spirits can be destroyed with the noise made by the moon and bell on her head. In the battle with the demons, the generated sound from her bell was sent to the grave of the God of Death thousands of wicked demons.
